Hello, nice to see you again.
For the March issue of "Dolls House & Miniature Scene" magazine I created this miniature wedding cake from polymer clay, with swirly buttercream and roses perfect for a Spring wedding.
The tutorial includes both step by step instructions as well as clear pictures, so it's very easy to follow. If this is your first time making a miniature wedding cake or a miniature cake at all, and you feel a little intimidated, you can make a one tier cake to start with, instead of a two-tiered one.
I know I say it every time, but the magazine is full of amazing articles, projects and interviews with amazing artists that I know will inspire you or at least make you "awwww" for the longest minute of your life...I mean, just look at the cover! They also always have competitions or giveaways going on, which are always fun to enter.
Yesterday I posted a question in my IG stories to get to know you guys better and know where you were from, and the response was so intense that I was (positively) overwhelmed! I wasn't expecting that many people to respond to be honest and that huge variety of countries.
It was absolutely amazing to get to know you a little better and that so many have gone through similar situations like me, uprooting their lives and moving to a different country. I was 15 when I moved from my birth country Argentina to Italy, and though each of us have had their own set of very unique life experiences, we also share that same experience (which doesn't happen to the majority of people) and it makes me feel like we have something else in common.
What do you think?
Thank you so much for responding to my IG story, I really appreciated it and thought it was a lot of fun. It was like traveling in a way and it made me consider new places to visit because of you, so thank you!
Back to my tutorial in the magazine...it includes a list of tools and materials, but if you're curious to know what they are and where you can get them, here's where:
- FIMO Liquid (or other liquid polymer clay)
- Small tile (or other oven-proof dish to make and bake the cake on)
- Round cutters (I used 2.5cm and 2cm but you can adjust this to your needs)
- Toothpick
- Blades
- Fine ended tool (gum stimulator)
- Pasta machine or rolling pin
- Paint brushes
- Acrylic paint - White and beige
- FIMO Gloss or other water-based varnish
*I make a small commission from the affiliate links at no extra cost to you. The products suggested may or may not be exactly the same ones I use (colour for example), but similar ones or the same brand where I couldn't find the exact same one. The products suggested are based on my experience and personal taste so they may not suit everyone.
I really hope you enjoy the tutorial and the magazine and that you're doing well during these strange times; I know it's not easy, but I think that being in the moment, finding joy in the little things is KEY.
Thank you soooo much for reading and I'll catch you next time,
Lots and lots of love,
Mai
