If you follow me on Instagram, you may remember that I had asked my followers to vote for an item on my "30 days of polymer clay food" prompt list they wanted to see a tutorial for, and the majority voted for the Taiyaki cakes.
So as promised, here's my tutorial!
In this video I'll be showing you how I made miniature versions of the Taiyaki cakes using polymer clay, but you can also use the molds to make the pan in which they're cooked.
Taiyaki cakes are Japanese fish-shaped cakes that are usually filled with red bean paste, although they can be filled with other yummy things like custard and chocolate; and one of my favourite things about these cakes is that pink Taiyaki cakes are made in Japan to celebrate the beginning of Spring!
From what I read, Taiyaki cakes taste very similar to waffles and are made very similarly to waffles as well; which brings me to one little thing I forgot to mention in the tutorial.
When you fill in the molds and push the clay down, remove the excess but do leave a little bit "spilling" out for a more realistic look. Because these cakes are made with a double-sided pan, some of the batter would be spilling out of the mould.
I really hope you find this useful,
Thank you so much for watching and I'll catch you next time,
Love, Mai
These look so good Maive! Yummy!!!
